About the Position

The City of Portland, Maine, is seeking a highly skilled Airport Deputy Director to oversee the Engineering and Facilities division of the Portland International Jetport. As a key member of the airport's leadership team, you will play a vital role in managing the planning, design, and maintenance of airport facilities and airfield infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operation of airport facilities, including preparation of budgets and contracts.
  • Oversee staff, work assignments, and employment needs to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Lead project management and planning for construction projects, including coordination with various agencies and stakeholders.
  • Direct and oversee contractors, construction activities, and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Manage energy and transportation information systems to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Develop and manage maintenance programs and department records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Review tenant requests, manage bidding, and oversee car rentals and concessions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Implement energy conservation programs and perform related tasks to reduce the airport's environmental impact.
Requirements
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the State of Maine within 6 months of hire.
  • Hold a Maine driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Able to pass and maintain a TSA Criminal Background Check for an airport security badge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate with a bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in managing facilities, design, and construction professionals.
  • Experience in electrical and mechanical systems for large industrial facilities.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
  • Skilled in supervising design professionals and maintenance staff.
  • Knowledgeable in inventory control and energy conservation systems.
  • Well-versed in construction and building sciences.
  • Familiar with building codes and HVAC, electrical, and energy management systems.
  • Understanding of airport operations, security, and emergency response procedures.
