Supervisory Organization:
Lexie Zirschky

Department:
5420 Non Work Study, Academic Enhancement - Law

JOB PURPOSE:
Must currently be enrolled as an upper division student at Lewis & Clark Law School.

Academic Support Fellows enhance the first-year curriculum by providing optional, one-hour support sessions every two weeks that reinforce what students are learning in their courses. These sessions are accessible to all students enrolled in the designated class. Academic Support Fellows utilize these sessions to assist students in building confidence and identifying areas for improvement. During these sessions, Academic Support Fellows should direct students to their professor's office hours or appropriate staff as needed.

One of the key responsibilities of an Academic Support Fellow is to serve as a peer resource for first-year students. This includes advising students on topics such as navigating the first year of law school, effective study techniques, outlining, preparing for finals, and selecting courses for the subsequent year. More broadly, Academic Support Fellows act as a reassuring voice of experience, ready to guide new students on how to excel in their doctrinal classes.

Academic Support Fellows are encouraged to collaborate closely with the Director of Equity, Inclusion, & Academic Resources as well as their assigned professors to develop effective supplemental review sessions.

Academic Support Fellows should consider the scheduled class times for the course they are paired with when planning their own class schedules.

  • Academic Support Fellows will conduct a one-hour session every two weeks throughout the semester.
  • Ability to honor and engage with all identities and individuals, particularly those who are underrepresented in the country and/or at Lewis & Clark College.
SCHEDULE:
  • The work schedule will be established in consultation with the Director of Equity, Inclusion, & Academic Resources and the assigned professor(s).
