Senior Director of Planned Giving

Job Overview:

The Senior Director of Planned Giving is a pivotal position within the Office of Philanthropic Strategies, responsible for the strategic execution of the organization's vision. This role focuses on identifying, nurturing, soliciting, and managing relationships with potential donors, with a particular emphasis on planned giving and sophisticated gift strategies. The incumbent will serve as a key leader within the Planned Giving team, contributing significantly to the operational and strategic growth of the office while promoting the importance of planned giving throughout the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Act as a representative for the Planned Giving team, stepping in for the Executive Director when necessary, and engaging with stakeholders across various platforms.

2. Provide expert guidance on all facets of planned and charitable giving, particularly those involving illiquid and complex assets.

3. Facilitate the closure of substantial gifts, including seven and eight-figure contributions, to support the institution's mission.

4. Collaborate with gift officers and other internal teams to enhance discussions around complex planned giving opportunities, offering support and mentorship to colleagues in their efforts.

5. Oversee administrative tasks related to gift documentation, estate management, and stewardship of pooled income funds and charitable trusts.

6. Organize and lead training sessions on charitable planning and tax-efficient philanthropic strategies for internal teams.

7. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and legislative changes affecting donors and planned giving initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in fields such as tax, estate planning, or planned giving (including both professional experience and advanced education).
  • Preferred: Advanced degree or professional designation in a related field (e.g., business administration, tax, or law).

  • Ability to engage effectively with faculty, senior leadership, and high-level volunteers.

  • Analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.


Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with PG Calc planned gift software.
  • Commitment to the values and mission of higher education.
