Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Strategic Philanthropy to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will play a key role in executing our organization's vision for strategic philanthropy, identifying, cultivating, and stewarding high-level donors and prospects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the organization across the nation and campus, and serve as a key liaison with senior officers and faculty.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on all aspects of strategic philanthropy, including complex gift strategies and charitable giving.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with high-level donors and prospects, with a focus on securing seven and eight-figure gifts.
  • Collaborate with internal constituencies to support complex philanthropic conversations and develop individualized donor strategies.
  • Assist in team administration, including gift documentation, estate administration, and charitable trusts.
  • Organize and conduct internal training on charitable planning, gift planning vehicles, and tax-wise philanthropic strategies.
  • Maintain technical expertise and stay current on tax and legislative changes that impact donors and philanthropy.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or study in a related field (business administration, tax, or law) or rigorous professional designation (CPA, CFA, securities license) is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a related field, such as tax, estate planning, or philanthropy.
  • Proven ability to solicit high-level gifts or equivalent proven experience, particularly in relationship and trust building.
  • High ethical standards of behavior, sound judgment, thoughtfulness, respect for confidential personal information, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with and command the respect of senior officers, faculty, and other high-level volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills, with demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of PG Calc planned gift software.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the values and mission of higher education.
