Job Title: Senior Vice President of Research

America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Vice President of Research to lead our comprehensive research agenda and support our policy priorities.

Job Summary:

The Senior Vice President of Research will be responsible for developing and executing AHIP's research agenda, working collaboratively with the Policy & Strategy team to design and implement research projects, and overseeing a team of researchers who analyze health care data sets, develop studies, and write reports and issue briefs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and execute AHIP's comprehensive research agenda to support policy priorities and advocacy goals.
  2. Collaborate with the Policy & Strategy team to design and implement research projects that support AHIP's policy and advocacy priorities.
  3. Oversee a team of researchers who conduct claims data analysis, member surveys, and analyze public data related to health insurance and health care issues.
  4. Manage relationships with third-party consulting and actuarial firms to support commissioned research projects.
  5. Maintain relationships with health insurance trade and member plan staff responsible for health policy research.
  6. Think creatively and make recommendations regarding the best research product to meet advocacy objectives.
  7. Review data runs, suggest and pursue additional analyses as appropriate, and provide overall quality assurance.
  8. Produce and disseminate written research reports, issue briefs, and other products.
  9. Implement strategies to disseminate research to policy makers, stakeholders, and the media.
  10. Supervise staff.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience required.
  2. Master's Degree or equivalent degree preferred.
  3. A minimum of 10 years of experience in health policy research, including oversight, design, and implementation of qualitative and quantitative studies with healthcare data sets.
  4. Oversight of research teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in health insurance policy and health care research specific to the health insurance industry.
  • Excellent attention to detail for both quantitative and qualitative work.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, motivate, and coach others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Ability to identify and seek information.
  • MS Office with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Experience with statistical software and working with large data sets preferred.
Work Environment:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
