America's Health Insurance Plans is seeking an experienced Senior Vice President of Research and Policy Development to lead their team in shaping the future of health insurance policy.


Position Summary:

Responsible for developing and executing AHIP's comprehensive research agenda, consisting of in-house and commissioned research reports that support short-term and long-term advocacy initiatives.

Leads quantitative and qualitative research projects that support AHIP's policy goals, including claims data analysis, member surveys, and external modeling of premium and federal budget impacts.

Oversees a research team that analyzes health care data sets, develops studies, and writes reports and issue briefs.

Implements strategies to promote AHIP research to the AHIP Board, AHIP members, policymakers, and other stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops and executes comprehensive research agenda that supports AHIP's policy priorities and advocacy goals.
  • Works collaboratively with the Policy & Strategy team to design and implement research projects that support AHIP's policy and advocacy priorities.
  • Oversees in-house research team that conducts claims data analysis, conducts member surveys, and analyzes public data related to health insurance and health care issues.
  • Manages relationships with third-party consulting and actuarial firms in supporting commissioned research projects.
  • Maintains extensive relationships with health insurance trade and member plan staff responsible for health policy research.
  • Reviews data runs, suggests, and pursues additional analyses as appropriate and provides overall quality assurance.
  • Implements strategies to disseminate research, including presentations to policymakers and other stakeholders and the media.
  • Supervises staff.

The ideal candidate will have a high capacity for logical thinking, be able to cope effectively with stressful demands involving high levels of responsibility and urgent deadlines, remain calm in conflict situations, focus on mission-critical matters, and have the ability to switch quickly from one project or demand to another.

Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience required.

A minimum of 10 years of experience in health policy research, including oversight, design, and implementation of qualitative and quantitative studies with healthcare data sets.

Experience in health insurance policy and health care research specific to the health insurance industry.

MS Office with advanced knowledge of Excel.

Experience with statistical software and working with large data sets preferred.

This is a full-time position.
