Position Overview

The Lead Coordinator for Head Start Programs plays a vital role in managing and supporting educational initiatives with a focus on student engagement. This position involves collaboration with various secondary and specialist educational institutions, as well as alternative learning environments, to facilitate student development across multiple program hubs.

Key Responsibilities

The Coordinator will:

  • Design and implement Head Start strategies that align with each student's career goals and interests, ensuring a collaborative enrollment process.
  • Monitor student progress through educational and vocational training, conducting regular site evaluations to assess the suitability of work or training environments.
  • Equip students with essential skills for the workplace and training settings, fostering a safe and encouraging atmosphere that promotes professional growth.
  • Maintain consistent support across educational institutions, providing crucial guidance and timely insights to the Hub Director, educators, and career advisors.
  • Create and utilize professional development resources to enhance the effectiveness of the Head Start initiative, offering direction to teaching staff, career advisors, employers, and other stakeholders.
  • Engage with the broader educational community, government departments, and service providers to facilitate necessary support and collaboration.
  • Contribute to the Head Start services delivered to students and industries by identifying areas for improvement and addressing potential risks to ensure optimal student outcomes.

Accountability and Management

The Coordinator will:

  • Oversee the delivery of various program support services with a student-focused approach, including managing the student placement process.
  • Establish work priorities and schedules in alignment with school and departmental policies, fostering strong relationships with educational staff to achieve program objectives.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including students, their support networks, employers, training organizations, and local community groups.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts and service agreements related to the program, representing the Head Start leadership team in service delivery.
  • Enhance connections between senior secondary reform initiatives and respond proactively to any emerging challenges or risks associated with these programs.
  • Maintain comprehensive records for each student and industry interaction involved in the Head Start initiative, analyzing data to provide informed recommendations to school and program leadership.
  • Supervise students as necessary, ensuring compliance with established guidelines and maintaining a safe environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification that enhances the educational and vocational opportunities for students.
  • A strong understanding of the educational landscape, particularly the dynamics between middle and senior secondary education and career pathways.
  • A current Working with Children Check.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel between multiple school sites and workplaces.
  • A commitment to working during school vacation periods as required.
