Position Overview

The Therapy Team Leader serves as a vital member of the leadership group, responsible for the strategic development and implementation of essential services that contribute to the successful functioning of educational institutions. This role involves addressing complex challenges within the policy framework.

To establish this position, the educational setting must exhibit sufficient diversity and complexity. Indicators may include the management of significant school or district initiatives, projects, or targeted strategies that reflect a broad scope of management responsibilities.

It is essential to note that an education support class role is designed to enhance the educational services provided to students, without encompassing teaching duties as outlined in relevant legislation. Supervision of students is only permissible when it is an integral aspect of the role or involves oversight of students in controlled, small group settings, ensuring that the primary responsibility for students remains with a qualified teacher.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the leadership team, the Therapy Team Leader is accountable for the following:

  • Overseeing, coordinating, and supporting the delivery of speech pathology and occupational therapy services to students.
  • Actively participating in the School Improvement Team to enhance educational outcomes.
  • Implementing a consultancy model for therapy services to optimize learning experiences for all students.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to therapy staff, focusing on professional development and skill enhancement through:
    • Individual discussions, problem-solving sessions, and feedback mechanisms.
    • Facilitating professional learning opportunities and collaborative discussions.
    • Contributing to interdisciplinary care team meetings.
    • Promoting access to innovative resources that enhance classroom teaching practices.
  • Collaborating closely with Assistant Principals to formulate policies and guidelines regarding therapy service provision.
  • Establishing regular therapy team meetings and discipline-specific discussions to foster collaboration.
  • Maintaining a manageable clinical caseload, considering the needs of the therapy team.

Core Duties Include:

  • Ensuring therapists are well-informed about school policies and initiatives impacting service delivery.
  • Coordinating the distribution of caseloads among therapists.
  • Managing the overall delivery of therapy services within the educational setting.
  • Facilitating therapists' participation in classroom team meetings.
  • Scheduling and leading therapy team and discipline-specific meetings.
  • Overseeing professional development plans and evaluating performance.
  • Ensuring adherence to therapy service guidelines and school policies.
  • Providing support for complex therapy-related issues and queries.
  • Encouraging continuous professional growth within the therapy team.
  • Coordinating assessments and reports for funding requirements.
  • Monitoring and supporting effective therapy service delivery.
  • Managing the mentoring process for therapy staff.
  • Developing and delivering training and induction programs.
  • Maintaining accurate therapy documentation in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Leading initiatives for new therapy interventions.
  • Overseeing budget management for communication and student services.
  • Managing inventory and replenishment of therapeutic resources.
  • Coordinating therapy support for transition sessions and classroom allocations.
  • Engaging with external service providers and therapy networks as necessary.
