The Head of Educational Leadership is expected to manage a substantial area or function within the institution with considerable autonomy, ensuring the effective development, delivery, and assessment of the educational program.
This role will significantly influence policy development related to teaching and learning, directly impacting the achievement of institutional goals.
The Head of Educational Leadership will usually oversee the execution of one or more priorities outlined in the strategic plan of the institution.
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Curriculum and Instruction is a vital member of the School Improvement and Teaching & Learning Teams, with primary responsibilities for guiding our strategies in teaching, learning, data analysis, and assessment. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, Professional Learning Community (PLC) Leaders, and all staff to implement key strategies that address the learning needs of all students, ensuring the execution of high-quality teaching, learning, assessment, and reporting practices. A crucial aspect of this role is to ensure that the institution's resources effectively support the teaching and learning process.
The Director of Curriculum and Instruction is accountable to the Assistant Principal (Learning).
Some of the primary responsibilities associated with this role include:
Pedagogical Leadership:
· Formulate and implement a strategic vision for pedagogy that promotes high-quality teaching and learning throughout the institution.
· Spearhead the adoption and integration of modern pedagogical practices, ensuring alignment with research findings and the instructional model.
· Mentor and support educators in enhancing their instructional methods to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
Assessment and Data Management:
· Design and supervise the implementation of assessment frameworks that are rigorous, fair, and aligned with curriculum objectives.
· Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of assessment practices, ensuring they yield accurate and actionable insights into student learning.
· Facilitate professional development on best practices for assessment, including both formative and summative strategies.
· Leverage student performance data to drive instructional enhancements and inform curriculum development.
· Lead the analysis of assessment data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and strategies to boost student achievement.
· Guide educators in interpreting data and utilizing it to customize instruction and support individual student needs.
Professional Development:
· Design and deliver focused professional development programs centered on pedagogy, assessment, and data utilization.
· Assist educators in establishing and achieving professional objectives related to effective teaching practices and data use.
· Foster a culture of continuous improvement and reflective practice among staff.
Curriculum Development:
· Collaborate with PLC Leaders and educators to ensure that curriculum design and delivery align with pedagogical goals and assessment requirements.
· Review and enhance curriculum materials to ensure they are engaging, challenging, and responsive to student needs.
Collaboration and Communication:
· Work closely with school leaders, teaching staff, and other stakeholders to ensure a unified approach to teaching, learning, assessment, and data management.
· Effectively communicate with students, parents, and the school community regarding curriculum expectations, assessment practices, and student progress.
· Support student management processes throughout the institution as a leader.
Compliance and Accountability:
· Ensure that all teaching and assessment practices adhere to relevant educational policies and standards.
· Prepare and present reports on teaching and learning outcomes, assessment data, and strategic initiatives to the school leadership team.
· Perform any other duties as specified by the Principal.
