Position Overview

The Academic Employee Relations Manager plays a crucial role within the Faculty Affairs division, reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs. This position requires a high level of independence and sound judgment in addressing intricate employee relations issues, cases, and programmatic initiatives.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $7,500 and $9,167 per month, with a competitive and negotiable salary based on qualifications. This position is part of the CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Fresno State offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, participation in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick leave, vacation time, and 15 paid holidays annually. Eligible employees may also take part in the fee waiver education program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective solutions for complex employee relations challenges.
  • Maintain an advanced understanding of employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and workplace investigations.
  • Foster a professional and supportive environment in all interactions with the campus community.
  • Utilize strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently in a dynamic organizational setting.
  • Conduct mediation and negotiation to resolve disputes and maintain team harmony.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, correspondence, and procedural documents.
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships while leading and motivating staff.
  • Exhibit empathy and understanding towards diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in human resources or academic personnel.
  • Experience in a collective bargaining context.
  • Proven skills in conflict resolution and negotiation.
