We are looking for a Technical Sales Consultant (TSC) to spearhead the development and management of solar project proposals for commercial clients. The TSC will play a pivotal role in crafting proposals that ensure successful project outcomes for all parties involved. Responsibilities include presenting initial and detailed designs, cash flow analyses, financing alternatives, and project viability assessments. The position involves selling cash, financing, and PPA/lease solar transactions. The TSC must collaborate effectively across departments to achieve revenue targets.

Compensation

The starting salary for this role is $50,000.00 USD, commensurate with experience, plus sales commissions ranging from 1% to 4% of the gross project amount, depending on the specifics of each job and the competitiveness of the bid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategically develop and maintain an active business pipeline, engaging regularly with sales prospects and customer leads.
  • Generate leads for commercial and industrial solar projects through collaboration with the marketing team, networking, and independent lead generation efforts.
  • Conduct financial assessments of customer energy usage and illustrate the benefits of solar energy.
  • Facilitate both cash and PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) transactions.
  • Possess the ability to interpret basic single line drawings and recognize commercial-grade electrical equipment.
  • Have a foundational understanding of three-phase power, large electrical services, and some familiarity with medium voltage systems.
  • Understand utility rate structures and factors affecting Return on Investment.
  • Knowledge of solar + storage systems is advantageous; a willingness to learn is essential.
  • Effectively present the financial returns and environmental benefits of solar energy.
  • Stay informed about financing options for solar projects and conduct cost-benefit analyses to present ROI effectively.
  • Set appointments through referrals and self-generated leads.
  • Employ a consultative approach to demonstrate the value of solar solutions.
  • Document all customer interactions in the CRM database with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Enhance customer satisfaction and encourage future referrals through prompt follow-up and friendly service.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of commercial rebates and incentives at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Participate in industry events, webinars, trade shows, and zoning meetings.
  • Be available and willing to work outside standard hours to meet customer needs.
  • Act as an ambassador for Harvest Solar, promoting increased awareness of solar energy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Ability to support a growing business by identifying problems and proposing solutions.
  • Commitment to working necessary hours to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and able to learn design software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Educational and Certification Requirements

  • Valid State Driver’s License is required.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical sales experience (preferably in power systems) is required; 2+ years in commercial solar sales is preferred.
  • Knowledge of solar energy and/or experience in the solar industry is preferred.

Work Environment

  • Day travel up to 80% and overnight travel up to 10%: Harvest values work-life balance, and overnight travel typically occurs Monday through Friday. Travel expenses, including food per diem, hotel, and transportation, are covered.
  • Commercial Construction Setting 10% of the time: Exposure to outdoor work and construction site hazards.
  • Office Environment 10% of the time: A busy office with frequent interruptions requiring multitasking; standard office equipment, including Microsoft Office, is available.
