Job Summary

UPMC University of Pittsburgh Physicians is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join their team at UPMC Children's of Pittsburgh Heart Institute. This full-time position works Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with opportunities for hybrid flexibility.


Key Responsibilities
  • Review and verify patient demographic information to ensure data integrity.
  • Schedule appointments according to physician templates, meeting business unit scheduling accuracy requirements.
  • Obtain chief complaints to schedule appointments appropriately.
  • Manage incoming calls, demonstrating excellent telephone courtesy skills.
  • Ensure timely access to care for patients, meeting the 72-hour appointment requirement.
  • Coordinate access to care for patients within the department or location.
  • Monitor patient wait lists and take responsibility for escalating issues to clinical or supervisory personnel when needed.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree and 6 months of experience preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in a medical office, customer service, or inbound call center environment preferred.
  • Experience with personal computer-based applications, including email, and various office equipment required.
  • Ability to multitask at a high level and interact with diverse constituents, including patients, physicians, and insurance companies.
  • Basic knowledge of health insurance and medical terminology preferred.
  • Must be able to maintain confidential information and remain professional in stressful situations.
