Patient Access Coordinator

UPMC University of Pittsburgh Physicians is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join their team at UPMC Children's of Pittsburgh Heart Institute. This full-time position works Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with opportunities for hybrid flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient demographic information to ensure data integrity.
- Schedule appointments according to physician templates, meeting business unit scheduling accuracy requirements.
- Obtain chief complaints to schedule appointments appropriately.
- Manage incoming calls, demonstrating excellent telephone courtesy skills.
- Ensure timely access to care for patients, meeting the 72-hour appointment requirement.
- Coordinate access to care for patients within the department or location.
- Monitor patient wait lists and take responsibility for escalating issues to clinical or supervisory personnel when needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree and 6 months of experience preferred.
- 1 year of experience in a medical office, customer service, or inbound call center environment preferred.
- Experience with personal computer-based applications, including email, and various office equipment required.
- Ability to multitask at a high level and interact with diverse constituents, including patients, physicians, and insurance companies.
- Basic knowledge of health insurance and medical terminology preferred.
- Must be able to maintain confidential information and remain professional in stressful situations.
