Role Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-focused respiratory care, adhering to departmental standards and the scope of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As an integral member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist conducts various diagnostic assessments and therapeutic interventions while monitoring patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and document patient evaluations, including breath sounds, airway integrity, and cuff pressure. Perform diagnostic tests to assess the necessity for and response to respiratory therapy.
  • Administer respiratory care treatments, such as oxygen therapy, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assist in the placement of artificial airways and manage mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitor patients for therapeutic outcomes, alerting providers and intervening as necessary in case of adverse reactions.
  • Support the transport of patients reliant on ventilators.
  • Respond to emergency situations, ensuring airway management and adequate ventilation during resuscitation efforts as required.

Qualifications:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or instructor status must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Associate Degree or completion of a Vocational Program.
  • State Registered Respiratory Therapist or State Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician credentials.
