Role Summary and QualificationsThe Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering exceptional, patient-focused respiratory care in alignment with departmental requirements and the established standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As an integral member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist conducts various diagnostic assessments and therapeutic interventions while monitoring patients who are receiving both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and document patient evaluations, including breath sounds, airway integrity, and cuff pressure. Perform diagnostic tests to assess the necessity for and response to respiratory therapy.
- Administer respiratory care treatments, such as oxygen therapy, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
- Assist in the placement of artificial airways and manage mechanical ventilation processes.
- Monitor patients for therapeutic outcomes, notifying providers and intervening as necessary in case of adverse reactions.
- Support the transportation of patients reliant on ventilators.
- Respond to urgent patient scenarios, ensuring airway management and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as needed.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or instructor certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Associate Degree or completion of a Vocational School program.
- State Registered Respiratory Therapist or State Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician.
