Job Overview

Lighthouse Lab Services is collaborating with a prominent healthcare organization that is in the process of expansion, and we are seeking a General Supervisor II to contribute to their mission.

Position Summary:

The General Supervisor II plays a critical role in ensuring that laboratory samples are processed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with relevant CAP and CLIA standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the daily operations of high-complexity testing performed by laboratory staff.
  • Ensuring that all team members have the appropriate resources and materials to perform their tasks effectively.
  • Facilitating clear communication with technical staff regarding any modifications to protocols or policies.
  • Demonstrating leadership qualities such as effective communication, adaptability, critical thinking, teamwork, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Monitoring test analyses and specimen evaluations to maintain acceptable performance levels.
  • Assisting in the training and competency assessment of laboratory personnel, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining compliance documentation as per regulatory standards, including cleaning and maintenance logs.
  • Collaborating with the Quality Analyst to draft, revise, and uphold the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual.
  • Engaging in sample processing and ensuring adherence to blood handling protocols.
  • Continuously assessing and enhancing workflow processes to guarantee timely and quality specimen processing.
  • Providing technical guidance to laboratory staff performing testing procedures.
  • Possessing a thorough understanding of procedures, SOPs, and quality controls to ensure the accuracy of reported data.
  • Identifying and addressing issues that may negatively impact testing performance or result reporting.
  • Supporting menu validations and undertaking additional responsibilities as necessary.
  • Executing basic accessioning tasks in pre-analytical operations, including managing patient identifiers and specimen compliance.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Clinical testing personnel must hold a valid state-issued license, if required, and meet the following educational criteria:
  • A minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, including either 24 semester hours in medical laboratory technology or 24 semester hours in science courses.
  • Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program.
  • A minimum of one year of laboratory training or experience in a high-complexity testing environment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of clinical laboratory services.
  • Technical expertise to oversee laboratory operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills.

Experience:

  • At least one year of previous leadership experience is required.
  • Two to four years of experience in hematology, coagulation, routine chemistry, and immunoassay.
  • Comprehensive understanding of quality assurance and quality control to ensure result accuracy.
  • Broad knowledge of hematology, coagulation, routine chemistry, and immunoassay.

Certifications:

Preferred certifications include ASCP, AMT, or other relevant organizations, as mandated by state regulations.
