Position Summary:

The Laboratory Technical Supervisor is tasked with being the primary resource for troubleshooting laboratory processes and addressing potential technical challenges. This role serves as the main support for laboratory personnel, ensuring that all training and competency evaluations are conducted for staff handling patient specimens. The Technical Supervisor will also assist the Laboratory Director and Quality Assurance Department in meeting all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide constant accessibility to testing personnel for on-site, telephonic, or electronic support to resolve technical issues as per the established policies.
  • Verify test procedures and establish the laboratory's performance characteristics in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Department.
  • Ensure compliance with CAP requirements for critical reagents, including evaluation of new lot numbers before use.
  • Assist Lab Management and Quality Department in updating workflows and ensuring SOPs are current and implemented effectively.
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and activities.
  • Facilitate individual work output in line with current performance metrics.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs approved by HHS/CAP/API.
  • Conduct menu validations and related responsibilities as needed.
  • Resolve technical issues and ensure corrective actions are taken when test systems deviate from established specifications.
  • Ensure patient test results are reported only after all corrective measures are implemented.
  • Identify training needs and provide regular in-service training for staff performing tests.
  • Evaluate the competency of testing personnel to ensure accurate and timely reporting of test results.
  • Perform specimen processing as required.
  • Ensure all corrective and preventive actions are executed for any deviations in test systems.
  • Manage resource allocation through ADP, including approving time-off requests and conducting employee performance reviews.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Clinical testing personnel must hold a current state-issued license if required, along with:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant scientific field is mandatory.
  • A Master's or Doctoral degree in a related field is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical laboratory services.
  • Technical expertise in monitoring laboratory operations.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and conducting root cause analysis.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Doctoral degree with 1 year of relevant training and experience; or
  • Master's degree with 2 years of relevant training and experience; or
  • Bachelor's degree with 4 years of relevant training and experience in high-complexity testing.
  • Broad understanding of hematology, coagulation, routine chemistry, and immunoassay.
  • Thorough knowledge of QA/QC practices to ensure precision and accuracy.

Certifications:

  • Preferred certifications include ASCP/AMT or others as required by state regulations.
