Role Summary:

The Laboratory Operations Supervisor collaborates closely with the Medical Director(s) and Laboratory Director to oversee the technical, financial, and administrative functions of the clinical and anatomical laboratories. This role ensures compliance with various standards and regulatory bodies, including AABB, CAP, CLIA, FDA, and JCAHO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance and training requirements are met for all team members.
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations for staff.
  • Monitor employee satisfaction and develop strategies to enhance retention.
  • Manage staffing requests and IT access for new and existing personnel.
  • Oversee staffing levels and skill mix to achieve productivity goals.
  • Ensure adherence to payroll standards and attendance documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with accreditation standards and hospital guidelines.
  • Review and respond to management reports on a monthly basis.
  • Oversee laboratory billing practices, ensuring medical necessity for test orders.
  • Monitor quality improvement indicators and proficiency testing.
  • Assist in budget development and ensure adherence to financial expectations.
  • Provide guidance on laboratory procedures as outlined in the Procedure Manuals.
  • Address incidents and patient safety reports promptly.
  • Lead daily safety meetings within the laboratory.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment and lead effective workgroups.
  • Communicate regularly with staff through various channels.
  • Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and policies.
  • Participate in nursing and medical staff committees as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years in a leadership role within a laboratory setting.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist under CLIA, MT (ASCP), MT (AMT), HEW, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of leadership experience in a laboratory environment.
