Position: Early Head Start Family Support Specialist

Program: Head Start

Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, year-round

Compensation: $38,455 - $48,065

Salary Grade: 12

Key Responsibilities:

The Family Support Specialist conducts regular home visits to implement a comprehensive curriculum focused on child development within the home environment. This role also includes facilitating group socialization activities for families with infants and toddlers, as well as providing educational support for prenatal and postpartum care to expectant mothers and their families.

In collaboration with families, the specialist ensures access to essential services in various areas, including:

  • Medical, dental, and mental health services
  • Child development and educational resources
  • Family engagement and goal-setting
  • Identification of family needs and available resources

The Family Support Specialist encourages families as they work towards self-sufficiency, offering direct services or coordinating referrals to community partners.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Social Sciences is required; a Bachelor's in Social Work (BSW) is preferred, along with 2-5 years of experience in a human services environment.
  • Familiarity with local human services agencies and community resources is essential.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for infants and toddlers, as well as family support strategies, is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective communication abilities (both written and verbal) are crucial.
  • Physical capability to perform duties in a typical classroom setting, including lifting children up to 40 lbs, and engaging in activities with children.
  • Ability to pass background checks and maintain a valid driver's license is mandatory.
