GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Family Support Specialist will engage with families to foster a trusting relationship, evaluate their resource requirements, and offer essential support, education, and resources from pregnancy through the age of three. Families are empowered to cultivate and utilize vital parenting skills necessary for raising happy, healthy children. The specialist employs specific curricula and methodologies to instruct, model, and enhance parents' confidence in their parenting abilities while promoting development in a safe and healthy environment. The specialist is responsible for delivering these home-based services in alignment with the standards set forth by the Healthy Families America guidelines and contractual obligations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in service delivery to prenatal families and/or families with children from birth to age three.
  • Familiarity with community resources in Strafford County.
  • Proficient in computer applications including: Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Certification in Parents as Teachers or the ability to obtain it as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide Healthy Families America (HFA) services to designated children and their families, consistent with the mission of Community Action Partnership.
  • Coordinate home-based activities.
  • Collaborate with families and the HFA team to develop tailored plans for each child and family, considering program objectives, individual family needs, and community resources.
  • Encourage and facilitate parent involvement and participation in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Utilize a relationship-based approach to build trusting relationships with families, employing skills such as empathetic understanding, genuine care, problem-solving, support, sensitive communication, and cultural awareness.
  • Promote safe, nurturing environments for children by educating parents on child development, health, safety, and parenting skills.
  • Assist each child and parent in developing positive self-esteem.
  • Guide families in learning healthy coping strategies for everyday challenges.
  • Support families in navigating crisis situations.
  • Act as an advocate for children and families, addressing unmet needs.
  • Provide families with information, education, and referrals to appropriate resources, ensuring follow-up on referrals when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and current records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with all regulations.
  • Lead various playgroups, support groups, developmental screening events, or other related programs for families within the community.
  • Engage in reflective, weekly supervision.
  • Participate actively in team meetings as a member of the home visiting team.
  • Seek opportunities for professional growth by attending training conferences/workshops as directed by the supervisor.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor for the benefit of the program and/or agency.

EMPLOYMENT SCREENING

Valid Driver's License and insured vehicle (100/300 minimum coverage) for use on the job or acceptable alternative, driving record check, criminal record check, randomized drug screening.

Head Start, Early Head Start, Childcare, and Home Visiting Programs are also subject to the following: Head Start and childcare licensing requires a criminal record check and fingerprinting prior to employment. An initial physical examination record, including a TB screening, must be obtained within 60 days of hire, updated every three years, and kept on file with Human Resources. If a TB screening indicates high risk, results of a TB test must be kept on file, including any treatment received. An initial driving record check will be conducted. License information will also be submitted to the agency's automobile insurance carrier.
