Joining the NASA Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) team offers a chance to be part of a historic journey, ensuring the safety of human presence on the International Space Station and facilitating humanity's return to the Moon and exploration of Mars.

In this collaborative setting, you will engage with a diverse team of NASA engineers, mission operations specialists, and experts in commercial spaceflight.

Your expertise in design/operations, reliability, and system modeling/data analysis will be essential in providing Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) support across all human spaceflight programs at JSC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver PRA and HRA expertise to support NASA's human spaceflight initiatives, including various programs such as Commercial Crew, Orion, Gateway, Artemis, and EVA/Human Surface Mobility.
  • Conduct comprehensive system safety and reliability analyses, including hazard assessments, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Reliability Block Diagram Analysis (RBDA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), HRA, and PRA to evaluate ground support and spaceflight systems.
  • Analyze reliability data by collecting, classifying, and validating information to model and predict the reliability of complex spaceflight systems and crew operations under extreme conditions.
  • Utilize system modeling and data analysis skills to create reliability and probabilistic risk assessment models, including the development of early flight adjustment factors.
  • Collaborate with hardware/software developers and operators to gather failure and operational data necessary for modeling spaceflight systems.
  • Provide analytical support for design and operational trade studies to facilitate risk-informed decision-making.
  • Document findings and analysis results in formal reports, presenting insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Evaluate System Safety, Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) products and processes developed by NASA contractors and hardware providers.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science (Physics), Mathematics, or Statistics, with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with at least 13 years of experience.
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert in PRA, HRA, and quantitative risk analysis of complex systems and operations.
  • Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust clearance.
  • Ability to pass a background check for access to NASA facilities and IT systems.
Essential Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across multiple organizations and stakeholders within a team-oriented environment.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal oversight, managing priorities and completing tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Skill in visualizing, articulating, and simplifying complex issues into clear, concise presentations.
  • Proficiency in generating high-quality written technical reports and delivering effective presentations to senior management and clients.
  • Experienced in using Excel and other statistical tools.
  • Familiarity with SAPHIRE and Human Reliability Analysis methodologies.
  • Background in performing root cause analysis.
