Position Summary:

Manager of Accounting Services

As an integral part of our Finance team, the Manager of Accounting Services will collaborate closely with the Assistant Corporate Controller to oversee various accounting functions within our waste management operations. This role encompasses the management of profit and loss (P&L) activities, financial analysis, lease accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and audit facilitation. The Manager will also contribute significantly to budgeting processes and the overall financial strategy of the organization, providing an opportunity to enhance financial performance and ensure precise and timely financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • P&L Oversight: Direct the preparation and analysis of monthly profit and loss statements, ensuring accuracy in reporting, reviewing financial data for trends and variances, and offering actionable insights to senior management.
  • Financial Analysis: Execute comprehensive financial analyses to aid strategic decision-making, reviewing performance metrics, identifying improvement areas, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Lease Accounting Management: Oversee accounting for operating and finance leases in accordance with relevant accounting standards, managing the recording and tracking of lease-related transactions.
  • Balance Sheet Integrity: Supervise regular balance sheet reconciliations to maintain the accuracy of financial records, promptly investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Prepaid Expense Management: Handle the accounting for prepaid expenses, ensuring accurate recognition and amortization in financial statements.
  • Fixed Asset Oversight: Manage the accounting for fixed assets, including tracking acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Audit Facilitation: Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and addressing auditor inquiries, implementing recommendations for enhanced financial controls.
  • Budgeting Assistance: Aid in the budgeting process by preparing detailed forecasts and financial models, monitoring performance, and analyzing variances.
  • Process Enhancement: Identify and implement improvements to accounting operations, promoting best practices and streamlining procedures.
  • Team Leadership: Guide and support the accounting team, mentoring staff, managing workloads, and conducting performance evaluations to foster high levels of engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA certification or progress towards CPA preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial capacity; experience in the waste management sector is advantageous.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in general ledger systems; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar ERP systems is a plus. Strong knowledge of GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards is essential.
  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Leadership & Communication: Proven leadership skills with experience in team management; excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Technical Proficiency: High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational capabilities, adept at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Independence & Influence: Ability to work autonomously while effectively influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Teamwork & Independence: Capacity to work collaboratively and independently, supporting the Accounting Manager and liaising with other departments.
