Position Summary:

Staff Accountant

As an essential member of our Finance team, the Staff Accountant will assist the Accounting Manager in overseeing the financial operations of our waste management division. This role encompasses full-cycle accounting responsibilities, including profit and loss (P&L) assessments, lease accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and the management of prepaid expenses. The Staff Accountant will play a vital role in ensuring precise financial reporting, performance evaluation, and adherence to accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Analysis: Aid in the preparation and examination of monthly profit and loss statements. Analyze financial data to pinpoint trends, discrepancies, and improvement opportunities, providing insights to enhance financial decision-making.
  • Lease Accounting: Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to manage accounting for both operating and finance leases, ensuring compliance with relevant standards. Track lease-related transactions and prepare lease amortization schedules.
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Conduct regular reconciliations to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records, promptly addressing any discrepancies.
  • Prepaid Expenses Management: Oversee prepaid expenses by recording, tracking, and amortizing costs, ensuring timely recognition in financial statements.
  • Accounting Support: Assist in full-cycle accounting tasks, including journal entry preparation, general ledger maintenance, and month-end closing processes.
  • Financial Reporting: Contribute to the creation of periodic financial reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Audit Preparation: Prepare necessary documentation for audits and assist the Accounting Manager in addressing auditor inquiries.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for enhancing accounting procedures and operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with various departments to gather financial information and ensure accurate accounting treatment of transactions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of accounting experience is required, with a preference for candidates with a background in the waste management sector.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in general ledger systems; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is advantageous.
    • Understanding of GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements.
    • Experience in lease accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and prepaid expense management.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on detail.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting financial information clearly.
  • Technical Proficiency: High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with advanced skills preferred.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational capabilities, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Teamwork & Independence: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
