WHAT WE OFFER

THE AUDITOR-CONTROLLER'S OFFICE
The Auditor-Controller's Office is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial operations of all activities under the Board of Supervisors. This office provides professional fiscal leadership to protect the interests of the citizens of Ventura County, promotes public oversight, and ensures accountability in a customer-oriented and efficient manner.

THE POSITION
The Systems Finance Analyst is accountable for managing all reporting products utilized by County departments. Under varying levels of supervision, the analyst will plan, lead, schedule, assign, and monitor the work of professional and technical reporting staff. Responsibilities include evaluating reporting needs, assessing the efficiency of existing reports, coordinating fiscal program/system reporting requirements, and developing strategies to address financial system accounting needs.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with Structured Query Language (SQL), knowledge of GAAP concepts, and familiarity with fund accounting. They should be comfortable mentoring a team and clearly articulating technical concepts to diverse audiences.

PAYROLL TITLES AND APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARIES:
Finance Analyst I: $75, $103,465.48 annually
Finance Analyst II: $84, $117,693.89 annually
Senior Finance Analyst: $92, $129,463.29 annually

NOTE: If appointed at the lower level, incumbents may be promoted to the higher level without further examination upon meeting the minimum requirements and demonstrating satisfactory performance.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

At the entry level, duties include learning the operations of the Ventura County Financial Management System (VCFMS) and ensuring the accuracy of reports. At higher levels, tasks become more complex and are performed with greater independence, including coordinating with the VCFMS System Administrator for testing and documenting results, reconciling reporting products, and consulting on reporting system issues.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree with at least eighteen (18) semester units of accounting coursework, along with relevant professional experience as an accountant, auditor, or analyst.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Skilled in developing Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Ability to train users in financial systems.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Project management experience.
DESIRED
  • Experience with reporting systems and financial accounting in a government environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: Operations of hosted Cloud-based systems, GAAP, laws affecting governmental financial operations, fiscal monitoring methods, and systems analysis.
