Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Pathologist and Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Science Specialist performs a range of standardized chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological analyses to gather data essential for diagnosing and treating medical conditions. This role also includes orienting new staff and executing other related responsibilities as needed.

Job Levels:

  • Laboratory Science Specialist I: This is the entry-level position within the Laboratory Science Specialist series, offering a competitive hourly wage.
  • Laboratory Science Specialist II: This experienced-level position allows for greater autonomy and requires less direct supervision, with a higher hourly wage.

Job Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Science Specialist may be responsible for:

  • Conducting various tests across multiple fields of medical technology.
  • Completing technical testing and reporting in areas such as serology, blood bank, microbiology, hematology, coagulation, chemistry, and urinalysis.
  • Performing venipuncture as necessary.
  • Assisting in maintaining laboratory cleanliness and organization.
  • Keeping accurate records and operating various electronic equipment and analyzers.
  • Participating in quality assurance and proficiency testing activities.
  • Executing other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
To qualify for the Laboratory Science Specialist I position, candidates must possess a valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist license issued by the State of California Department of Health Services. No prior experience is required. For the Laboratory Science Specialist II position, candidates must have at least one year of recent experience in a similar role.

Special Requirements:
Candidates must be willing to work in various departments and shifts as needed, including overtime and standby duties.

Knowledge and Skills:
Successful candidates will demonstrate a thorough understanding of standardized tests in Hematology, Serology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, and Urinalysis, along with the ability to work accurately and collaboratively within a laboratory team.
