Position Overview

The Strong is dedicated to fostering a love for play across all ages through innovative programming. The Public Programs Lead Coordinator plays a pivotal role in collaborating with colleagues to generate creative ideas, coordinate events, and manage administrative tasks associated with the development and execution of public programs. This role is focused on creating engaging, hands-on experiences that promote themes of diversity, inclusion, and exploration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President for Education and Public Programs to conceptualize and implement public programs that are accessible and inspiring for all visitors.
  • Work alongside the director of public programs and fellow coordinators to curate a comprehensive schedule of diverse public programming, including signature events and themed series.
  • Conduct thorough research to support program development and related activities.
  • Strategically align programs with the museum's mission, ensuring relevance to collections and interpretation.
  • Oversee all logistical aspects of assigned programs, including securing supplies, booking venues, and coordinating talent and entertainment.
  • Engage with diverse performers and vendors, managing relationships to ensure successful program execution.
  • Create detailed operational plans for events, serving as the primary contact for each program.
  • Design a variety of engaging activities for visitors to enhance their experience.
  • Manage program budgets, obtaining quotes and establishing contracts for events.
  • Deliver exceptional service to guests, embodying the museum's commitment to extraordinary guest experiences.
  • Actively interact with museum visitors, providing information about programs and events.
  • Support outreach and publicity efforts for public programs as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of program processes and contacts.
  • Continuously evaluate and reflect on program facilitation and implementation.
  • Research and propose new program ideas to enhance existing offerings.
  • Demonstrate initiative in problem-solving and support team decisions.
  • Provide administrative support to the director of public programs across various projects.
  • Foster a welcoming environment for new staff and encourage teamwork.
  • Assist in training and supervising interns and volunteers involved in public programs.
  • Participate in required training sessions and team meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, museum studies, event management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in event planning or programming, preferably in an educational or museum setting.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts as required.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in programming.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage conflicts and resolve issues.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage with guests and colleagues professionally.
  • Creative thinking abilities to develop innovative solutions and ideas.
  • Knowledge of educational program design and evaluation methods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • High energy and enthusiasm when interacting with guests.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual communication skills.
  • Experience in marketing or public relations.
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, museum studies, or a related field.
