Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President for Education and Public Programs to conceptualize and implement public programs that are accessible and inspiring for all attendees.
  • Work alongside the director of public programs and fellow coordinators to curate a diverse and inclusive annual programming schedule, featuring signature events and recurring themed series.
  • Conduct thorough online research to support program development and related activities.
  • Strategically consider how events align with the museum's mission and their connection to collections and interpretations.
  • Oversee all logistical aspects of scheduled programs, including supply management, venue booking, setup, AV support, and coordination of external talent.
  • Recruit diverse performers and vendors, ensuring effective communication throughout the program development and execution phases.
  • Create comprehensive operations plans for events to guide all teams in setup and takedown processes.
  • Design engaging activities for each event to enhance visitor experiences.
  • Manage program budgets, obtaining quotes and establishing contracts for upcoming events.
  • Deliver exceptional service to guests, both onsite and offsite, emphasizing the museum's commitment to extraordinary guest experiences.
  • Engage with museum visitors, providing information about events, programs, and membership.
  • Assist with promotional and outreach efforts for public programs as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of procedures and processes related to program development.
  • Reflect on event facilitation to identify areas for improvement.
  • Proactively research new program ideas and suggest enhancements for existing events.
  • Demonstrate initiative in problem-solving and support team decisions.
  • Provide administrative support to the director of public programs across various projects.
  • Foster a positive work environment for new staff members.
  • Identify opportunities to assist colleagues and promote teamwork.
  • Guide and train public programs interns and volunteers.
  • Participate in required training sessions and team meetings.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, museum studies, event management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in event planning or programming, ideally within an educational or museum context.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends as needed.
