Job Summary

The Strong is seeking a highly motivated and creative Public Programs Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our public programs team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging and educational programs for guests of all ages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President for Education and Public Programs to develop and implement public programs from concept to delivery, ensuring they are accessible, inclusive, and inspiring for all guests.
  • Schedule Planning: Work with the director of public programs and other public programs coordinators to establish a diverse and inclusive public programming schedule, including signature events, themed summer weeks, and recurring series.
  • Logistics and Operations: Arrange program logistics, including securing supplies, booking rooms and spaces, ensuring AV support, and coordinating external talent and entertainment.
  • Vendor Management: Hire diverse and inclusive vendors, manage their relationships, and maintain good communication throughout the development and execution of events.
  • Operations Planning: Develop operations plans for each event to assist in setup and teardown, and serve as the main point of contact for each event.
  • Program Scheduling: Develop schedules of diverse and inclusive activities for each event to provide visitors with an engaging, educational, and fun experience.
  • Program Budgeting: Plan and develop programs within budgetary parameters, obtain quotes, and set up new contracts for upcoming events and performances.
  • Staffing and Support: Oversee staffing for public programs and events, provide quality service to guests, and support public programs' publicity and outreach activities as needed.
  • Documentation and Reflection: Record and maintain documentation of procedures and processes related to program development and implementation, and regularly reflect on event facilitation and implementation.
  • Research and Development: Research new program ideas and make suggestions for improvements to signature events.
  • Problem-Solving and Teamwork: Take initiative to identify and solve problems, publicly support team decisions, and provide day-to-day administrative support to the director of public programs.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in education, museum studies, event management, or related field.
  • Experience: Experience working in event planning, coordination, or programming, preferably in an educational environment or at a museum.
  • Skills: Strong creative thinking, ability to communicate effectively, and knowledge of principles and methods for educational program and training design.
