Position Summary:
The Youth Navigator will play a crucial role in expanding the Rochester Technology & MFG INC's youth programs, including the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program and ROC With Your Hands. This position will work closely with the Director of Workforce Development, Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator, and other partners to enhance access to and success in existing programs and services for in-school youth populations.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work under the supervision of the Rochester Technology & MFG INC's In-School Youth Coordinator and Director of Workforce Development.
- Enhance access to and success in existing programs and services for in-school youth populations.
- Establish relationships with students, teachers, counselors, and workforce development partners.
- Serve as an access point for students in need of guidance for a career in advanced manufacturing and/or other industries.
- Work with in-school youth coordinator and cultivate relationships with school staff and administrators to ensure student and program success.
- Implement career readiness training for students to be done in and/or out of school.
- Connect students to Rochester Technology & MFG INC's Youth Programs and facilitate enrollment in Dual Enrollment coursework with Monroe Community College and/or other post-secondary providers.
- Facilitate career exploration opportunities through site visits, guest speakers, demonstrations, and/or job shadowing.
- Collaborate with RochesterWorks and the City of Rochester in assisting students with enrollment into the Summer Youth Employment Program and/or Summer Of Opportunity Program.
- Work with manufacturing businesses and workforce partners to identify opportunities for paid co-ops, tours, and/or training opportunities.
- Facilitate enrollment in WIOA programming, administered by RochesterWorks.
- Build a bridge for students exiting the district to young adult workforce programming offered by RochesterWorks, Rochester Technology & MFG INC, and other partner agencies.
- Assist with media, social media, and website development as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- General knowledge of the advanced manufacturing industry, apprenticeship programs, and career exploration programs.
- Familiarity with working with school-aged children and being inside a school environment.
- Familiarity with educational institutions in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes Region.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, WordPress, and various social media.
Work Environment:
The position will co-locate at a school within the Rochester City School District with the ability to work at the Rochester Technology & MFG INC's office at the Brighton Campus Park. The workday is generally Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional pre-scheduled early morning, evening, and/or weekend events as needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work is performed in both an office setting and within educational institutions. Occasionally moving and lifting moderate amounts of weight and operating office equipment that may require repetitive hand movement.
Compensation:
$40,000 to $50,000 per year based on experience. Healthcare, Simple IRA contribution, mileage, vacation, and holidays. Position may include a cell phone reimbursement.
