Position Overview:

  • Location: Middletown, CT
  • Department: Family Practice
  • Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM

The Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting the care team and its patients through various clinical and administrative responsibilities, including patient intake, responding to patient inquiries, and documenting patient interactions. The MA operates within the Connecticut scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver patient care, clinical summaries, and guidance on next steps or follow-up
  • Perform phlebotomy as required
  • Collaborate with the care team, preparing patients by collecting and recording clinical information according to established protocols
  • Manage patient interactions in line with approved protocols and scheduling guidelines
  • Execute standing orders in accordance with practice policies and procedures
  • Accurately document all patient interactions and clinical activities in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely manner
  • Coordinate scheduling of tests, treatments, and follow-up visits for patients; assist patients in identifying appropriate external resources for disease management and other services; refer patients as necessary
  • Handle patient phone calls, taking complete messages and routing them to providers as needed through the EHR
  • Monitor task buckets to ensure timely responses to tasks, follow up on overdue orders/worklists, and track the status of critical referrals
  • In collaboration with Regional Nurse Managers, oversee temperature monitoring
  • Support the care team to ensure smooth office operations and the delivery of exceptional service through teamwork
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current coding, OSHA, and CLIA regulations, as well as company policies
  • Adhere to all patient safety initiatives and infection control regulations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant, or the ability to obtain CMA/RMA within a specified timeframe
  • Proficient computer skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care environment
  • Experience with electronic health records (e.g., Epic)
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
