Department: Critical Care Unit
Shift: Part Time Nights 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM / 48 Hours per Pay

A Healthcare Support Specialist plays a vital role in the medical environment, assisting healthcare professionals in delivering exceptional patient care. Their responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and respiration.
  • Assisting patients with mobility, dressing, and nutritional needs.
  • Collecting diagnostic samples including blood and urine.
  • Changing and maintaining dressings for wounds.
  • Communicating any changes in a patient's condition to nursing staff.

The Healthcare Support Specialist operates under the guidance of nursing staff, ensuring that all tasks are performed safely and effectively. In some instances, they may also fulfill administrative duties, contributing to the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.

Even though they may not wear uniforms, these specialists are crucial to the healthcare team, providing support that helps patients on their journey to recovery.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.

Training: Candidates must obtain a BLS CPR certification prior to starting. Orientation will provide necessary training in CPR.

Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should have one of the following:

  • Completed training as a STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant.
  • Experience in patient care within the last five years.
  • Current nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining a positive demeanor.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Preferred: Previous experience in a hospital setting.
