Job Overview

Hope the Mission is dedicated to combating poverty, hunger, and homelessness by providing immediate aid and sustainable solutions.

The Housing Navigator plays a crucial role in delivering on-the-ground support to single adults facing homelessness as they move towards stable housing.

The primary duties of the selected candidate include evaluating permanent housing options, identifying suitable housing placements, and offering housing stability services, which encompass the execution of housing stabilization strategies and the coordination of various services tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. Navigators will also be tasked with fostering and maintaining positive relationships with landlords, property management firms, and other service providers in the homeless assistance network.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in completing housing voucher applications, including necessary assessments and coordination for effective housing support.
  • Provide comprehensive support to individuals experiencing homelessness in areas such as case management, housing readiness, and advocacy.
  • Conduct assessments to identify suitable permanent housing interventions and service requirements.
  • Guide individuals towards permanent housing placements or programs that facilitate safe and stable living conditions.
  • Develop a Housing & Services Plan (HSP) to streamline clients towards permanent housing and set specific goals as needed.
  • Connect clients with community resources that aid in achieving permanent housing, such as credit repair and legal assistance.
  • Assist clients in securing move-in resources, including deposit assistance and furniture.
  • Collaborate with all relevant programs and staff within Hope the Mission.
  • Regularly follow up with clients to monitor progress towards their housing goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for client files, including assessments, individualized housing plans, and case notes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Build effective, trusting relationships with program participants.
  • Establish and maintain professional connections with landlords and housing providers to create a database of available housing units.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and coalition meetings.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Ensure thorough record-keeping in both written and digital formats.
  • Meet performance outcomes for applicable contracts.
  • Submit necessary reports and documentation while liaising with external agencies.
  • Foster good rapport with colleagues and management.
  • Facilitate departmental staff meetings and resident house meetings.
  • Adhere to all organizational rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques to assist clients in resolving conflicts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Support the mission of Hope the Mission.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field, or three years of experience working with homeless populations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and responsibility.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed principles.
  • Knowledge of HUD guidelines regarding subsidized housing programs.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural sensitivity.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Must be TB-cleared prior to hiring.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Compliance with health and safety protocols is expected.
