Job Overview

Hope the Mission is dedicated to combating poverty, hunger, and homelessness by providing immediate aid and sustainable solutions.

The Housing Navigator plays a crucial role in delivering on-the-ground assistance to single adults facing homelessness as they transition into stable housing.

The primary duties of the selected candidate include evaluating permanent housing options, identifying suitable housing placements, and delivering housing stability services, which encompass the execution of housing stabilization strategies and the coordination of various services tailored to meet each client's unique needs. The Navigator will also be tasked with fostering and maintaining positive relationships with landlords, property management, and other service providers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in completing housing voucher applications, including all necessary assessments and coordination to ensure comprehensive housing support.
  • Provide essential support to individuals experiencing homelessness in areas such as housing-focused case management, readiness for housing, accessing assistance programs, and advocacy.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to identify appropriate permanent housing interventions and service requirements.
  • Guide individuals towards permanent housing placements or programs that facilitate safe and stable living conditions.
  • Develop a Housing & Services Plan (HSP) to streamline participants' pathways to permanent housing and set specific goals as needed.
  • Connect participants with community resources that support their goal of securing permanent housing.
  • Assist clients in obtaining available move-in assistance resources, such as deposit help and furniture.
  • Collaborate with all programs and staff within Hope the Mission.
  • Regularly follow up with participants to ensure progress towards their goals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for client files, including assessments, individualized housing plans, and case notes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Build effective, trusting relationships with program participants.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with landlords and housing providers to create a database of available housing units.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and coalition meetings.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Ensure thorough record-keeping in both written form and through the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Meet specific performance outcomes as outlined in applicable contracts.
  • Submit reports and documentation while liaising with external agencies.
  • Foster positive working relationships with colleagues and management.
  • Facilitate departmental staff meetings and resident house meetings.
  • Adhere to all organizational rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Utilize de-escalation and mediation techniques to assist clients in resolving conflicts.
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission of Hope the Mission.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field, or three years of experience working with homeless populations in a housing-related capacity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with attention to grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and responsibility.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed principles.
  • Knowledge of HUD guidelines regarding subsidized housing programs.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, with sensitivity to cultural, religious, and personal differences.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be TB-cleared prior to hiring.
  • A criminal background check is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Compliance with health and safety protocols, including mask usage and vaccination requirements.
