Instructional Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Instructional Support Specialist to join our team at the Palmdale School District. As an Instructional Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational programs and activities of our students.
Key Responsibilities- Assist teachers in the conduct of lessons and other classroom activities, including preparing for and assisting with various classroom projects.
- Provide individual or small group instruction to students, including listening to and drilling individuals or small groups in reading, spelling, math, and other subjects.
- Observe students, answer questions, give individual instruction, counsel, and calm students as needed.
- Maintain order among students in the classroom and on school grounds.
- Supervise students during playground activities, bus loading and unloading, outings, and other activities.
- Assist teachers in preparing instructional and testing materials, administering and scoring tests, correcting papers, and assisting in the preparation of graphic and written teaching materials.
- Assess programs and materials to meet the needs of students, collect, assemble, and distribute textbooks, learning package materials, supplies, equipment, and other resource materials.
- Perform routine duties and activities, such as recording grades, taking attendance, and maintaining attendance records.
- Assist in maintaining a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment, including preparing bulletin board materials and decorating the classroom.
- Attend and participate in faculty, staff, inservice, and parent conferences and meetings as required.
- Set up and operate audio-visual equipment, computers, copying machines, and other related equipment that serve as aids in or to the instructional program.
- Perform a variety of general clerical duties.
- Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
- A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: some instructional experience is highly desirable.
- Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- This position requires applicants to meet the academic proficiency requirement in one of the following ways:
- Completed two years or more of college units (48+ units); OR
- Received an AA degree or higher; OR
- Successfully complete our academic assessment, which requires knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics.
This job is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment and requires the following physical demands:
- Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling;
- Some climbing and balancing;
- Stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead and horizontally;
- Dexterity of hand and fingers to manipulate instructional materials, writing instruments, computer keyboard/mouse;
- See and hear sufficiently in normal range with or without correction;
- Speaking for exchange of information.
The job is performed under conditions with potential exposure to indoor/outdoor fumes and odors, bloodborne pathogens, and/or illness; climate-controlled environments and adverse weather conditions.
