Job Overview

Hope the Mission is dedicated to combating poverty, hunger, and homelessness through immediate aid and sustainable solutions.

The Housing Support Specialist will deliver on-the-ground assistance to single adults facing homelessness as they move towards stable housing.

The primary duties of the selected candidate include evaluating permanent housing options, identifying suitable housing placements, providing stability services through the execution of housing stabilization strategies, and coordinating various services tailored to each client's needs. The Specialist will also cultivate and sustain positive relationships with landlords, property management, and other service providers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in completing housing voucher applications, including necessary assessments and coordination for effective housing support.
  • Provide comprehensive support to homeless individuals in areas such as case management, housing readiness, accessing assistance programs, and advocacy.
  • Conduct assessments to identify suitable permanent housing interventions and service requirements.
  • Guide individuals towards permanent housing placements or programs that promote safe and stable living conditions.
  • Develop a Housing & Services Plan (HSP) to facilitate participants' transition to permanent housing and establish specific goals as needed.
  • Connect clients with community resources that aid in achieving permanent housing, such as credit repair and legal assistance.
  • Assist clients in securing move-in resources, including deposit assistance and furniture.
  • Collaborate with all relevant programs and staff within Hope the Mission.
  • Regularly follow up with participants to ensure progress towards their housing goals.
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation for client files, including assessments, individualized housing plans, and case notes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Build effective, trusting relationships with program participants.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with landlords and housing providers to create a database of available housing units.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and coalition meetings related to homeless services.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and adapt to changing circumstances while managing tasks independently.
  • Ensure thorough record-keeping in both physical and digital formats.
  • Meet performance outcomes as required by applicable contracts.
  • Facilitate and supervise departmental meetings and resident discussions.
  • Uphold all organizational rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques to assist clients in resolving conflicts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission of Hope the Mission.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field, or three years of experience working with homeless populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and responsibility.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed Care principles.
  • Knowledge of HUD guidelines regarding subsidized housing programs.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, demonstrating sensitivity to cultural and individual differences.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain it shortly after hiring.
  • TB clearance prior to employment.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Compliance with health and safety protocols, including mask usage and vaccination requirements.
