Position Overview

Evening Program Coordinator/Prevention Specialist

The Center for Humanistic Change (CHC) is dedicated to empowering individuals, particularly youth, by equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to make informed and positive life choices through engaging prevention education and proven programming. Our core focus remains on drug and alcohol prevention initiatives.

CHC is currently looking for part-time evening Program Coordinators to implement a specialized evidence-based curriculum aimed at family participants in the local community.

Ideal candidates should possess (1) a degree or some level of post-secondary education, (2) a passion for working with youth and families, and (3) the ability to facilitate discussions around cultural issues while fostering a comfortable environment for participants. Experience in group presentations or classroom settings is highly desirable.

Availability for evening sessions is essential, as the program spans seven consecutive weeks, with sessions held one night per week from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Comprehensive training will be provided. We are recruiting facilitators for two distinct programs:

Program 1: Strong African American Families (SAAF) - We encourage applications from individuals of color for facilitator and childcare roles.

Program 2: Familias Fuertes (Strong Families) - Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are particularly sought for this program.

Facilitators will be responsible for delivering the curriculum and collaborating with the program coordinator to prepare for each session. The goals of these programs include (1) reducing youth substance use, (2) enhancing resistance to peer pressure, (3) minimizing alcohol-related issues and behavioral problems, (4) avoiding risky situations and addressing anxiety/depression, (5) fostering positive parent-child relationships, (6) promoting protective factors in youth such as problem-solving and self-regulation, and (7) connecting youth with their cultural heritage to inspire achievement.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to engage and retain participants through diverse educational strategies.
  • Familiarity with interactive learning models and group dynamics is preferred.
  • Commitment to serving as a positive role model for participants.
  • Respect for individual differences in learning styles, backgrounds, and values.
  • High level of professionalism in program delivery.

Application Requirements:

Interested candidates should submit a resume and references. Selected applicants must fulfill all state and local training requirements and obtain necessary clearances, including background checks and mandated training. Fees for clearances will be reimbursed upon completion of the initial program. Compliance with legal requirements for working with children is mandatory.
