About This Role

This position serves as the primary administrative support for the Department of Business and the Construction Management Program at Lamar University. The successful candidate will provide advanced administrative, secretarial, and clerical tasks, as well as support to the Chair of the Department of Business and the Program Director of the Construction Management Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Department Chair(s), Program Director, and faculty, including monitoring and developing schedules, assisting with classroom assignments, and working with advising and Degree Works.
  • Monitor budgets, handle purchasing, invoices, and receipts, maintain supplies and equipment, and communicate with faculty and students as needed.
  • Provide customer service by greeting and assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors, copying and distributing messages within the office, and responding to questions and inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Draft department official communications and maintain electronic documents.
  • Prepare program announcements to students, including jobs, scholarships, events, and other relevant information.
  • Interpret and explain policies and procedures, and resolve problems or complaints as necessary.
  • Provide other student needs that are supported by the College-level staff.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain all required accreditation materials and annual reporting, including formatting and drafting documents, and maintaining the document repository for all programs.
  • Collect and report data for ACCE and AACSB accreditation.
  • Provide related support by training and supervising student workers, arranging luncheons and special events, and providing technical/software support and training.
  • Organize and manage program events, including the CM Job Fair, CM Orientation, and CMAC meetings.
  • Communicate with CMAC and the construction industry organizations.
  • Maintain department or unit filing systems, including updating files with new information, retrieving information and files as requested, and ensuring security of personnel files.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in an office setting.
  • Familiarity with specialized terms, practices, or systems.
