Lead Safety Analysis Engineer


The Lead Safety Analysis Engineer will be integral to a growing team focused on the design and licensing of the Natrium Demonstration reactor, primarily responsible for conducting Licensing Basis Events (LBE) analyses.

This role may also involve providing subject matter expertise to various projects within the TerraPower Sodium Fast Reactor (SFR) Program.

Responsibilities


Depending on qualifications and expertise, the role involves performing transient analyses to address the safety analysis requirements of the Natrium Demonstration reactor for Anticipated Operational Occurrence (AOO), Design Basis Event (DBE), Design Basis Accident (DBA), and Beyond Design Basis Event (BDBE).

Collaborate with safety methods development engineers to create methodologies, computational models, and other components of the Evaluation Models.


Engage with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to define functional, performance, safety, and quality requirements while supporting the overall design process.

Maintain thorough documentation of model development and analyses.

Conduct engineering reviews of analyses and other engineering design documents.


Contribute to the development of computational models that support system modeling for design and operational transients, as well as Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA).

Assist in evaluating the Evaluation Models against relevant tests and perform necessary benchmark calculations.

Key Qualifications and Skills

B.S. or higher in nuclear engineering or a related engineering discipline, with a minimum of 12 years of experience in the nuclear sector.Strong understanding of nuclear systems fundamentals, including thermal-hydraulic, neutronics, dynamics, and reactor transient behavior.


Experience analyzing Anticipated Operational Occurrence (AOO), Design Basis Event (DBE), Design Basis Accident (DBA), and/or Beyond Design Basis Event (BDBE) is essential.

Proficiency in model development and analysis using engineering software in the following areas

System transient analysis:
Familiarity with SAS4A/SASSYS-1 or equivalent experience with RELAP5, GOTHIC, or TRACE is advantageous.

Radionuclide transport analysis (source term development and analysis): MELCOR, RADTRAD, SRT, or equivalent.

Experience with performing and submitting LBE analyses to regulatory bodies is highly desirable.

Knowledge of nuclear design, regulatory requirements, and risk-informed performance-based technology guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors is a plus.

Experience with SFR safety analysis is particularly valuable. Experience with other reactor designs may also be considered.

Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical, modeling, and reporting capabilities.


Familiarity with NQA-1 requirements related to analysis and software management, along with experience in quality assurance programs.

Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary engineering teams to tackle engineering challenges.

Programming skills in any language are a plus.

Job details

Salary Range Level 12:
$163,702 - $226,844

*Typically, our employee salaries are positioned around the mid-point of the posted salary bands. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and aligned with the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
