Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex radiation shielding design and analysis for advanced nuclear reactors, including calculating dose rates, activation rates, neutron fluence rates, and energy deposition rates.
  • Develop radiation sources based on material activation analysis for non-fuel in-vessel components.
  • Conduct criticality calculations and establish upper subcritical limits (USLs).
  • Develop and maintain formal documentation of analysis results.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to provide specialized expertise and support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or equivalent experience; Advanced degree and 5+ years of relevant experience with nuclear analysis preferred.
  • Strong MCNP skills and experience with performing radiation shielding calculations for both gammas and neutrons are required.
  • Familiarity with variance reduction using MCNP, and features such as surface source read/write, mesh tallies, and weight windows is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work within published regulatory guidelines and maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Experience working under NQA-1 quality program is desirable.
  • Strong computational expertise and programming skills in any language, with Python being commonly used, are highly valued.
  • Knowledge of basic nuclear reactor design concepts is necessary to support the engineering team.
