Overview:

The Senior Environmental Safety Specialist will play a pivotal role in the design, execution, and enhancement of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives across Qualcomm's operations. This position will offer expert guidance on EHS-related matters and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure adherence to EHS protocols, conduct safety audits, and manage incident inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, execute, and sustain tailored EHS programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Advise on modifications to the work environment based on EHS data analysis, observed patterns, and industry best practices.
  • Provide expert consultation on EHS issues to management and engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Facilities, Construction, and Human Resources to deliver EHS-focused solutions.
  • Review and assess new EHS legislation, reporting findings and recommendations to management.
  • Engage with external industry networks and professional organizations.
  • Design and conduct EHS training sessions, including occasional sessions during non-standard hours.
  • Maintain essential compliance documentation and manage the online learning platform for EHS training.
  • Lead incident investigations utilizing Root Cause Analysis and Process Improvement techniques, ensuring timely case management.
  • Educate and support team members in fulfilling their safety obligations.
  • Compile and maintain monthly metrics and activity records for management reporting.
  • Oversee the implementation and evaluation of contractor safety plans throughout project lifecycles.
  • Examine design plans to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety standards.
  • Identify and rectify hazards and non-compliance issues through regular inspections.
  • Act as the EHS representative on site-level committees.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene assessments to ensure worker and environmental safety.
  • Participate in emergency response activities and facilitate evacuation drills as necessary.
  • Serve as a liaison with insurance representatives, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Adapt responsibilities as required by business needs.

Core Competencies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
  • Experience with cloud-based training and incident management systems.
  • Quick to adapt to new technologies and proficient in core software applications.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience in managing operations with a focus on efficiency and metrics-driven outcomes.
  • Strong team player with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Interest in public speaking and training delivery.
  • Ability to influence and lead without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage timelines and deliverables.
  • Effective communication skills in both verbal and written formats.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental, health, safety management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in providing EHS support and managing projects in a corporate or manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as CSP or CIH.
  • Experience with accredited EHS management systems.
  • HAZWOPER certification.
  • OSHA 10- or 30-hour General Industry training.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions.
  • Willingness to work outside standard hours as needed.
  • Physical capability to perform site inspections and compliance activities.
