Position Overview

The Lead Community Organizer plays a crucial role in enhancing community engagement and advocacy efforts. This position is responsible for overseeing various aspects of community outreach programs, ensuring effective operations and support for staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the daily management of community outreach initiatives and perform essential organizing duties as needed.
  • Support and train staff and volunteers involved in community engagement activities.
  • Coordinate schedules for volunteer counselors and manage client caseloads effectively.
  • Facilitate special events, community meetings, and workshops aimed at tenant rights and community education.
  • Create and distribute multilingual informational materials to enhance program visibility.
  • Update training curricula and program materials as directed by management.
  • Manage social media accounts to promote community initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community-based organizations and local groups.
  • Address client concerns regarding housing and habitability through various communication channels.
  • Advocate for clients in landlord-tenant disputes, including drafting correspondence for repairs and monitoring case progress.
  • Guide clients in filing petitions and represent them in mediation and arbitration settings as needed.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments and agencies to address community needs.
  • Stay informed about housing and health regulations to effectively advocate for clients.
  • Lead community campaigns and coalitions focused on housing issues.
  • Provide referrals to clients for additional services offered by local organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations through proper documentation.
  • Participate in the timely submission of progress reports to funding bodies.
  • Respond promptly to all inquiries from clients, volunteers, and staff.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and contribute actively to discussions.
  • Assist in organizing outreach materials and resources for community programs.
Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in project management or tenant advocacy.
  • Proven ability to work with volunteers and community leaders.
  • Experience advocating for low-income populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership development experience.
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative.
  • Commitment to social change and community empowerment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Background in working with diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience in non-profit or public sector roles is advantageous.
