Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in delivering services to a diverse population of individuals and families within a network of previously public housing. This role operates within a trauma-informed care framework, employing best practices that acknowledge the influence of the social environment and the significance of community in enhancing residents' quality of life.

This position is tasked with the planning and coordination of ongoing onsite programs, which include health and wellness initiatives, educational workshops, cultural events, and community organizing efforts. The Coordinator will also assist residents in navigating higher levels of care coordination, utilizing clinical techniques such as de-escalation and motivational interviewing, while fostering partnerships with external service providers to introduce innovative resources for residents.

Employment Status: Full-time, Nonexempt

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends required.

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage along with a comprehensive benefits package.

We manage numerous affordable housing units, serving a wide array of low-income individuals, including seniors and families from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Our mission extends beyond housing; we are dedicated to fostering grassroots leadership and empowering low-income residents and youth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct services such as general information, referrals, and light case management to a growing population with diverse needs.
  • Organize, implement, and assess educational, social, and recreational activities, including health workshops, safety drills, and community celebrations.
  • Collaborate with onsite staff and other departments to enhance service delivery.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with social service agencies to expand programming options.
  • Provide support and translation services to resident groups.
  • Assist residents facing housing stability challenges, including applications for rental assistance.
  • Collect and report data for city-mandated requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to engage with individuals from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Awareness of the challenges faced by elderly and disabled populations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for community involvement and engagement.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field with two years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma with five years of applicable experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese is preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults and individuals with mental health or substance use challenges.
  • Familiarity with community organizing as a means to enhance resident engagement.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of local resources and public benefits.
  • Experience in public housing or supportive housing environments.
  • Understanding of harm reduction principles.
  • Prior experience in measuring program outcomes.
