Position Overview: The Youth Community Engagement Coordinator will lead, organize, and inspire local youth to become proactive leaders within their communities. This role involves educating, planning, and executing youth-driven service initiatives and advocacy projects, along with developing leadership training programs and facilitating meetings. The coordinator will oversee the Youth for Single Room Occupancy (YSRO) initiative, providing guidance and support to youth participants, volunteers, and interns. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about mentoring and empowering young people, particularly those from immigrant backgrounds.

The coordinator will collaborate with youth to implement environmental education initiatives and activities funded by various grants.

Employment Type: Full-time, Nonexempt, Regular

Work Environment: General business hours with flexible scheduling; availability for weekends and some weekday evenings is required.

Compensation: $34.84 per hour; Comprehensive Benefits Package

About the Organization: Established in 1977, the Chinatown Community Development Center is a private non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a holistic vision of community development. We manage approximately 36 affordable housing facilities, serving over 4,500 low-income seniors, single adults, and families from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Our mission includes building housing, nurturing grassroots leadership, and engaging low-income residents and youth. Key Responsibilities:

Youth for Single Room Occupancy (YSRO):

  • Oversee the YSRO program
  • Empower local youth to take on leadership roles in their communities by:
  1. Planning and executing youth-led service and advocacy initiatives
  2. Facilitating YSRO youth meetings and workshops, while conducting outreach and recruitment
  3. Designing and implementing youth leadership training programs
  4. Coordinating youth service-learning initiatives (e.g., intergenerational programs, community-building activities, etc.)
  5. Recruiting, mentoring, and supervising youth interns and volunteers
  6. Organizing social events for youth, including retreats and community gatherings
  7. Representing the organization and building partnerships with local youth programs, schools, and community agencies
  8. Participating in community meetings and discussions on youth-related issues
  9. Advocating for youth needs and community interests
Represent the organization in advocacy efforts related to youth and community needsDeliver presentations on program initiatives as necessaryAssist with grant writing and reporting tasks

Additional Duties:

  • Foster positive relationships with youth organizations in the area
  • Collaborate with colleagues on joint initiatives

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ability to establish strong connections with youth
  • Excellent leadership, mentorship, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proficient in public speaking and community outreach
  • Adaptability to handle various tasks
  • Awareness of the challenges faced by low-income and monolingual populations, especially youth
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to exercise patience
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Chinatown community and available resources
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
  • Experience in grant writing is preferred

Education and Experience:

  • Bilingual in Chinese and English
  • 1-2 years of experience in youth program management and engagement
  • 1-2 years of experience in program planning and training facilitation
  • 1-2 years of experience working within the Chinatown community
  • 1-2 years of experience in grant writing
  • Experience working with youth aged 14-22
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, and Google Docs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields such as Ethnic Studies, Community Development, or Social Work
  • Familiarity with San Francisco neighborhoods and demographics
  • Experience in public speaking and community relations
  • Knowledge of housing and community issues affecting low-income populations
