Position Overview:

The Surgical Services Assistant / Housekeeping Operating Room plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the surgical environment at Mount Sinai Medical Center. This position is integral to our commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the surgical area is thoroughly cleaned by removing waste and linens, sanitizing furniture, surgical lights, beds, stretchers, and walls.
  • Prepare the operating room for upcoming procedures by returning equipment and furniture to designated locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of stretchers, IV poles, and other surgical equipment, ensuring they are free from contaminants.
  • Replace sharp containers as needed and manage the inventory of essential supplies, including oxygen tanks and cleaning materials.
  • Adhere to safety protocols by using personal protective equipment while performing cleaning duties.
  • Prepare germicidal solutions in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Safely transport patients, ensuring their comfort and privacy throughout the process.
  • Handle specimens and other sensitive materials with care, maintaining custody until delivered to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in training new staff members and maintain accurate records of cleaning activities.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and maintain current certifications, including CPR.
  • Monitor patient safety by providing a secure environment and ensuring compliance with sterile protocols.
Qualifications:
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous.
