The Surgical Services Assistant / Housekeeping Operating Room plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the surgical environment at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Key Responsibilities:- Thoroughly cleans surgical areas by disposing of waste and linens, sanitizing furniture, surgical lights, beds, stretchers, and other equipment.
- Prepares the operating room for subsequent procedures by returning furniture and equipment to their designated locations.
- Ensures that all surgical equipment, including stretchers and IV poles, are kept clean and free from contaminants.
- Regularly checks and replaces sharp containers to maintain safety standards.
- Maintains an inventory of essential supplies, including oxygen tanks, cleaning materials, and IV pumps.
- Stocks necessary items in sub-sterile areas, adhering to regulatory standards.
- Follows standard precautions diligently while performing daily tasks, including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Prepares cleaning solutions in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols.
- Utilizes proper techniques for moving patients to ensure their safety and comfort.
- Safely transports specimens and medical supplies, ensuring compliance with all protocols.
- Verifies patient identification and surgical details prior to any transport activities.
- Assists in training new staff members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Maintains accurate cleaning logs and documentation as required.
- Participates in staff meetings and in-service training sessions, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed promptly.
- Monitors patient safety and maintains a sterile environment during all activities.
- Performs routine maintenance on sterilization equipment as per departmental guidelines.
- Completes other assigned duties as needed.
- Current BLS certification required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Preferred experience of at least one year in a healthcare setting.
