Position Overview:

The Surgical Services Assistant / Housekeeping Operating Room plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the surgical environment at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the surgical area is thoroughly cleaned by disposing of waste and linens, sanitizing furniture, surgical lights, beds, stretchers, and other equipment.
  • Prepare the operating room for upcoming procedures by returning stretchers, OR beds, IV poles, and monitors to their designated locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all equipment, including stretchers, IV poles, and specialty carts, ensuring they are free from contaminants.
  • Replace sharp containers as needed and manage the inventory of essential supplies such as oxygen tanks, cleaning materials, and IV pumps.
  • Stock necessary items in sub-sterile areas, adhering to regulatory standards.
  • Follow standard precautions diligently, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment during cleaning tasks.
  • Prepare germicidal solutions according to established protocols to ensure a safe environment.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics when assisting patients, particularly the elderly, to prevent injuries.
  • Safely transport specimens and patients, ensuring their comfort and privacy at all times.
  • Verify patient information prior to transport and maintain communication with nursing staff regarding patient care.
  • Assist in training new staff members in the surgical services department.
  • Document cleaning activities and maintain compliance with departmental policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions, maintaining current certifications.
  • Monitor patient safety by maintaining a secure environment and providing attentive care.
Qualifications:
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous.
