ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Procurement Specialist plays a pivotal role in orchestrating work orders and sourcing all essential materials and components to bolster manufacturing processes, ultimately shaping the master production schedule. This position is responsible for establishing strategic inventory levels and vendor-managed inventory to align with customer demand based on analytical forecasts and historical insights. The specialist will oversee the procurement of outsourced items and cultivate strong vendor relationships. This role is integral to our strategic objectives in Supply Chain Management. The incumbent collaborates closely with plant leadership and team members to refine replenishment strategies that meet customer expectations while enhancing standard costing and planning accuracy. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to the implementation and optimization of new and existing materials and components, ensuring production requirements are met while fostering a safe working environment.

Planning & Inventory Management

  • Develop work orders based on confirmed customer orders and forecasting data to create a rolling six-month master production schedule.
  • Maintain item master data within the ERP system to ensure effective planning of future requirements.
  • Manage raw material, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventories to remain responsive to sales and work orders while adhering to turn objectives and financial targets.
  • Input forecasting data into the ERP system to drive demand and adjust as necessary to align with current customer needs.
  • Establish and uphold minimum inventory levels to achieve strategic and vendor-managed inventory goals.
  • Lead capacity planning initiatives to ensure alignment with customer requirements.
  • Oversee setup and run times within the product routing software.
  • Facilitate the review and reconciliation of production work orders to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Participate in and contribute to inventory reduction initiatives.
  • Assist in annual physical inventory and lead cycle counts in accordance with company policy.
  • Engage in special projects and assignments as directed by management.

Procurement Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute the procurement of raw materials and components to support the master production schedule.
  • Revise and update purchase orders for raw materials in response to changes in the master production schedule.
  • Proactively communicate issues related to material and component availability.
  • Negotiate pricing and report cost savings achieved.
  • Assist in the development of contracts with key suppliers.
  • Support the establishment of dual sourcing for critical materials and components.
  • Maintain robust relationships with key suppliers to confirm production and shipping schedules.
  • Identify new outsourcing opportunities.
  • Develop and communicate forecasts to suppliers and vendors.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or Operations Management, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP) obtained within the last five years is preferred.
  • Over 10 years of experience in Supply Chain, Planning, Purchasing, and Scheduling, with a strong understanding of manufacturing lead times, processes, subcontract operations, and MRP/ERP systems.
  • At least 3 years of experience in inventory control and forecasting/planning.
  • Green Belt certification is preferred.
  • Experience in an IATF16949/ISO/AS9100 certified environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, across all organizational levels and with customers.
  • Experience in contract manufacturing operations.
  • Proficient in planning for low volume/high mix environments.
  • Familiarity with shop floor reporting systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • In-depth knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, preferably QAD manufacturing system.
  • Strong team-building and motivational skills, along with effective decision-making and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to influence and drive solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, flexible, dynamic, and proactive.
