Position Title: Building Engineer – Union - Day Shift

Position Overview:

The Building Engineer is responsible for the efficient operation, repair, and maintenance of various building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to work in diverse environmental conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems, including air handling units, pumps, and control systems.
  • Install and maintain electrical circuits and components.
  • Conduct repairs on plumbing fixtures and perform tasks such as sweating or brazing copper pipes.
  • Safely drain and isolate systems for maintenance activities.
  • Perform minor carpentry work, including replacing ceiling tiles and repairing door hardware.
  • Execute minor electrical tasks, such as changing bulbs and ballasts.
  • Maintain optimal performance of air handling units by cleaning coils and components.
  • Assemble and maintain chilled and hot water systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of emergency generators and associated systems.
  • Order necessary materials for repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including filter changes and lubrication, and replace components as needed.
  • Inspect and document the condition of mechanical and electrical systems, providing reports to supervisors.
  • Complete additional duties as required within the scope of the position.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in operating central plant equipment, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, or electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to repair building electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Proven experience in safely securing hydronic and electrical systems for maintenance.
  • Competence in brazing and soldering copper pipes and threading black pipes.
  • Basic carpentry skills are essential.
  • Strong understanding of building auxiliary systems, including fire-life safety and emergency generators.
  • Familiarity with general building systems, such as vertical lift equipment and overhead doors.
  • A valid driver's license is required for operating company vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices typical for maintenance operations.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders and lifting heavy objects.
  • Proficient in using various hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Work Schedule: Day Shift, Monday to Friday
