Position Title: Building Engineer – Union - Day Shift

Role Overview:

The Building Engineer is responsible for the effective operation, repair, and maintenance of various building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. This role requires physical stamina as it involves handling heavy equipment and working in varying environmental conditions. The engineer will respond to service requests and address emergency situations promptly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the operation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems, including air handling units, pumps, and motors.
  • Install and maintain electrical circuits and components.
  • Conduct repairs on plumbing fixtures and systems, including soldering and threading pipes.
  • Safely drain and isolate systems for maintenance tasks.
  • Perform minor carpentry work, including ceiling tile replacement and door hardware repairs.
  • Execute basic electrical tasks, such as bulb and ballast replacements.
  • Maintain optimal performance of air handling units by cleaning coils and components.
  • Oversee the assembly and maintenance of chilled and hot water systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and operations of emergency generators and related systems.
  • Request necessary materials for repair tasks.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance activities, including filter changes and lubrication.
  • Inspect and document the condition of mechanical and electrical systems, providing reports to supervisors.
  • Perform additional duties as required within the scope of contractual obligations.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in operating central plant equipment, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Proven ability to repair and maintain building electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Experience in safely securing hydronic and electrical systems for maintenance.
  • Skilled in brazing and soldering copper pipes and threading black pipes.
  • Basic carpentry skills are essential.
  • Strong understanding of building auxiliary systems, including fire safety and emergency generators.
  • Familiarity with general building systems, such as vertical lifts and overhead doors.
  • A valid driver's license is required for operating company vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures typical for maintenance operations.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders and lifting heavy objects.
  • Proficient in using various hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Work Schedule: Day Shift, Monday to Friday
