Position Title

Director of Religious Education and Social Outreach

Position Summary

The selected candidate will oversee the coordination of faith development, religious education, community outreach, and related initiatives essential for enhancing the vibrancy, spiritual growth, and social services aligned with the parish's mission.

This role requires collaboration with fellow staff members to cultivate a productive work atmosphere where worship, prayer, hospitality, and service are the core values.

The part-time incumbent will report directly to the Pastor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute goals for the Parish Religious Education Program:
    • Organize and manage Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation activities for students in the parish, including those not enrolled in Catholic schools and candidates entering the Catholic faith.
    • Ensure that the schedule of classes and activities for the Religious Education program is documented on the Parish calendar.
    • Support adult faith formation initiatives within the Parish.
  • Implement Archdiocesan policies and procedures in alignment with the Office of Catechetical Formation, including participation in Archdiocesan-sponsored training, special events, and retreats.
  • Facilitate learning opportunities for Catechists, such as the Catechetical Convocation.
  • Review and ensure compliance with Safe Environment policies and assist volunteers in meeting clearance and training requirements set by the Office of Child and Youth Protection.
  • Oversee the Parish Sacramental Preparation program for First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
  • Coordinate liturgical events for First Penance, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation in collaboration with the Pastor and Music Director.
  • Work with the Pastor, Parish Staff, School Leaders, and community members to identify and address social needs, including hunger, housing, financial assistance, mental and physical health, and elder care.
  • Develop and coordinate outreach to individuals unable to attend Mass, ensuring access to Holy Communion for all Parish members.
  • Assist the Pastor in administering Sacraments to homebound individuals.
  • Facilitate monthly Mass/Communion Services at nursing facilities, assisting the Pastor or Deacon.
  • Support Communion Services and assist visiting clergy in the absence of the Pastor.
  • Collaborate with the Pastor to establish goals and oversee the Caring for Friends Ministry, Grieving/Bereavement Ministry, and Parish events that support social services.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for outreach initiatives and events.
  • Manage the Parish's relationship with the St. Martin de Porres Foundation, providing necessary guidance to the Pastor and Business Manager regarding grants and reimbursements.
  • Contribute to the financial budgeting process in collaboration with the Pastor.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Qualifications

  • Active member of the Catholic faith, fully supportive of the Church's vision and teachings, with a willingness to pursue further religious education.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Religious Education or Theology; extensive experience in faith formation may be considered.
  • Self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, effective time management, and a positive attitude.
  • Proficient in WORD, EXCEL, GOOGLE applications, and email platforms.
  • Familiarity with social media tools.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Act as a liaison to community organizations seeking to partner with the Parish for service provision.
  • Experience in organizing, leading, and participating in meetings.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Commitment to confidentiality regarding Church records and staff information.
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment for outreach activities.
