About African Communities Together:

African Communities Together (ACT) is dedicated to empowering African immigrants in their pursuit of civil rights, economic opportunities, and improved living conditions. Our mission is to facilitate social integration, economic advancement, and civic engagement among African immigrant communities. We strive to cultivate grassroots leaders who are committed to enacting social change. Since our inception, we have provided vital services to countless African immigrants, developed numerous leaders, and successfully influenced policy at various governmental levels, impacting hundreds of thousands of individuals.

Role Description:

As part of our initiative during the upcoming election cycle, ACT will conduct a comprehensive nonpartisan outreach campaign aimed at mobilizing African voters. This campaign will prioritize increasing voter participation in critical districts, raising awareness about issues affecting the African community, and fostering membership within our statewide chapter. We are looking for a candidate with supervisory experience who can effectively collaborate, communicate with diverse populations, and energize the African community for civic engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Outreach: Oversee a team of canvassers, facilitating daily operations and debriefing sessions.
  • Training and Administration: Assist in training sessions and manage administrative tasks, including reporting on outreach activities.
  • Engagement: Conduct respectful, in-person dialogues with community members in priority areas.
  • Goal Management: Ensure weekly outreach and engagement objectives are met.
  • Voter Information: Provide unbiased information on voter readiness, ballot access, and voting methods.
  • Voter Verification: Confirm voter eligibility and assist with various voting options.
  • Fieldwork: Travel to designated outreach areas as required.
  • Recruitment: Engage community members to participate in ACT's initiatives.

Data Management:

  • Utilize data management tools to record outreach metrics and voter information.
  • Ensure accuracy in documenting voter interactions.
  • Regularly update and maintain voter information databases.
  • Track community engagement and voter commitments.
  • Provide insights on community concerns and priorities.

Training and Development:

  • Participate in mandatory training sessions to enhance outreach skills and best practices.
  • Learn effective storytelling techniques to connect with voters.
  • Engage in team meetings to stay informed on campaign strategies and messaging.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in community outreach or organizing is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in languages such as Amharic, Arabic, French, or other African languages is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
  • Cultural competence and experience working with African immigrant communities.
  • Comfortable engaging with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficient in using technology for outreach and data management.
  • Ability to walk long distances as part of outreach efforts.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
